Congratulations to Westlake High School media students Nick Rivello, Tom Olszewski and Nick Tobiasen. Their film Sidekick for Hire was recognized for 5 different awards at the Ten Day Film Challenge Statewide screening May 19, 2017 in Astoria!
Their superhero film, written by Nick Rivello '17, filmed and edited by Tom Olszewski '17, starring Nick Tobiasen '17, and co staring Mr. Brian McClintock, was nominated for best Use of Character, best Cinematic Technique and best Special Effects. Sidekick for Hire Won Best Use of Character, and received 5th Place overall in NY State!!
The 10 Day Film Challenge is an intense and invigorating 10 school days in which teams of students make a movie—write, shoot, edit and score it—in just 10 school days -- during the school day only!
On Day 1, the Challenge released to the students the character, prop, line of dialogue, cinematic technique and genre that needed be included in their movie. Then, 10 school days later, a 3-4 minute movie had to be completed and uploaded to their website. Finally, the 30 best films, were selected to be screened at a theater in New York City as part of an awards ceremony.
All together five films from students in Claudia Abate's Media class were submitted to the 10 Day Film Challenge.
