2023 Somers Science Fair

 

Samantha DiPaolo won 3rd Place in Cellular & Molecular Biology for her proposed research “Novel Mechanism to Inhibit Alzheimer’s Disease? Comparing pH vs. Aggregation of Tau Proteins in Brain Tissue & Cerebrospinal Fluid.” Samantha will be conducting original research this summer at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals in Tarrytown, NY.

Sofia Ruggiero won 3rd Place in Medicine & Health for her proposed research “Analyzing the Socioeconomic Impacts of Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) on Physical Frailty in Patients With Cirrhosis.” Sofia will be conducting original research this summer at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York, NY.

 

Sukhi Kaur won 2nd Place in Behavioral Science for her proposed research “A Case of Mistaken Identity? Investigating the Reliability of Simultaneous vs. Sequential Lineups with Multiple Perpetrators.” Sukhi will be conducting original research this summer at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, NY.

Ava Raguso won 3rd Place in Medicine & Health for her proposed research “Safe in the Sun? Investigating the Correlation Between Sun Poisoning and Sand Albedo on White, Pink and Black Beaches.

Riya Joji won 1st Place in Medicine & Health for her proposed research “Investigating Postoperative Functional Outcomes of Vitamin D Supplementation in Total Hip Arthroplasty Patients Utilizing the PROMIS Survey.” Riya will be conducting original research this summer at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in New York, NY.

 

Lexi DiSalvo won 1st Place in Animal Science for her proposed research “Raising Cash Cows: An Investigation of Behavioral & Hormonal Health Differences in Heifers Reared in Pasture vs. Barn.” Lexi will be conducting original research this summer at the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the University of Wisconsin - Madison in Madison, Wisconsin.
