Furniture Design Meets Engineering Design
Their chair had to be made entirely out of cardboard with no glue or fasteners, have a seat and back, be at least 16” from the floor, be comfortable and support the weight of an adult male (Mr. Clark) for at least 1 minute. On Thursday April 4 they participated in a “Game Of Thrones” where each chair was tested in the lobby of Westlake High School in front of the Tri-States team, the Administration and a variety of faculty and students. Students realized that what makes designing chairs daunting to designers is that for each situation, for each environment, chairs have to blend function and aesthetics more seamlessly than other objects.
