Social studies teacher Anthony Paduano set up a mock polling place for students in every grade to show them how easy the voting process can be and encourage them to get out and vote once they are of age. The room was set up with dozens of computers which allowed students to choose who they wanted for NY Governor, NY Senator, and NY Representative. There was also a mock proposition to show them that sometimes they have to vote for an issue in addition to a person. A five question Survey Monkey took students about five minutes to complete and then they were on their way. After they finished voting, AP Statistic students were in the hall conducting "exit polls". The stats students will use the data they collect to predict the outcome of the the Westlake student vote. A great lesson on the importance of making your voice heard!
