Congratulations to the Westlake Class of 2018! The 54th graduation ceremony took place on June 22, 2018, a beautiful, mild Friday afternoon. The bleachers and folding chairs were filled to capacity with families of the graduates there to congratulate them. Student council President Allison Brunetto opened the ceremony by leading the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance and then the Star Spangled Banner. Speakers included Senior Class President Anthony Minda, Principal Keith Schenker, Board of Education Trustee Christopher Pinchiaroli, Salutatorian Christine Sharabun, English teacher Michael Laterza, Valedictorian Keira Donnelly and finally Superintendent Dr. Susan Guiney. While many of the speakers reminisced about the wonderful experiences shared over the years at Westlake, the overwhelming theme of the speeches was to embrace new opportunities and not be afraid to take risks in order to grow and learn.
After Dr. Guiney's graduation proclamation and every student was presented with a certificate, the graduates tossed their caps in the air and broke out into excited cheers and applause. It was a great way to mark the end of their time in the Mount Pleasant Central School District. Good luck graduates!
